About the artist
The relationship with the natural environment is obviously important for Magda Alazrakis´ own creative production. It is in nature that everything that has been seen, experienced or dreamed of is rediscovered, only to be transported to a higher, transcendental level by means of abstraction. The familiar association with the primal or primordial is also evident, for example, in the use of terracotta powder, which is mixed with the oil and acrylic colours in the paintings to form a material symbiosis. In this way, the colour achieves a special concentration as well as a matt lustre, which makes a more effective structuring of the surface possible. Harmony plays a dominating role In Magda Alazrakis' work. It is not, however, a stylised form of harmony but a well- proportioned coexistence of individual picture elements. This particular harmonious order of the pictures is achieved by the emphasised breaches, the calculated and orchestrated contrasts, which are manifested in the opposing painting directions, in the confrontation between cold and warm shades, and finally in the accentuated application of complementary colours. Her pictures can be seen as lyrical narratives that preserve precious moments without constraining them in any way. The abstract picture here has much in common with poetry.
